What does it mean to trust the universe?

I recently read some books that advocate trusting the universe: If there is a problem that you are grappling with, you can just offer it to be resolved by the universe, rather than worrying about it.

I had some resistance to embracing that mindset, so in my post I am exploring why I am resisting it and what I actually do believe and want to practice.

PS

@Manuela Pauer I commented in LI, but I'll post it here, too:

I have always been put off by the claim that the universe will solve our problems if we trust it to. The implication is that if we find ourselves in a mess, we weren't trusting enough. It's the same nonsense, it seems to me, as the law of attraction, which also blames victims of violence and systemic injustice . . .

I like the notion of co-creation, the universe being the Source of love and power and creativity that we can tap into.

Thank you so much, @Pam Sourelis ! I replied on LI.

@Manuela Pauer - I have contemplated this same topic more than once!  I responded on LI.

Thank you, @Elaine Harding ! I replied on LI.

Star struck!

This week I met one of my teachers in person for the first time, Dr Gabor Mate.  I confess I was rather giddy with excitement and thrilled to be so close to the real person. Living in Canada, Gabor was on a book tour and yes, I got my book signed and we had a short exchange. I enjoyed the feeling of excitement and connection when we met.

I have been studying his Compassionate Inquiry approach through a series of videos for the last 12 months and recently graduated. The programme was a deep di…

I am so glad to hear you got to meet Dr. Mate, @mel pegley ! I have heard him speak virtually and find his teachings around trauma healing very helpful. And congratulations on completing his Compassionate Inquiry program!

Exploring My Resistance To Taking Myself On Artist Dates

This week I was thinking about weekly "Artist Dates" that Julia Cameron recommends in her book "The Artist's Way." These dates are simply times when you treat yourself to an experience by yourself to inspire you. They don’t have to be artistic per se, but just something you find interesting and fun. It could be going to a bookstore, attending a play or a going to the museum.

I found myself resisting artist dates. So I started to wonder why.

@Manuela Pauer Very interesting observation and I commented on your LI post!

MP

Thank you very much for your support, @Elaine Harding !

Do I really keep these stuff?

I was thinking to quit my commitment of Soul Gym Postings here, because my main task is to declutter the house of my parents at the moment. That means go on a discovery journey of 50 years.
And then the idea came up, what if I share my thoughts and learnings (maybe).

One thing what I start to reflect on myself is, to ask me and to check my drawer, do I really need to store these things? For example, greetings cards from 5 years ago and more?

I am on the way to change my view on this topic.

Thanks for your patience, if I post lately and also thanks for the energy support of this group.

MP

I would love to hear more about your thoughts and learnings as you are going through this decluttering process, @Jutta Held ! I need to do some decluttering, too, and it would be helpful to hear from someone who is going through it. :-)

Embrace This Life

This is one of my favourite poems which I wrote in 2008 during a time when I was under much duress due to feeling my past wearing heavily on me.  Yet, I also felt insights that this challenging time would pass and bring renewed life to my soul and mind.

Embrace this life of contradictions,

let its subterfuge sweep through the dark passages,

gathering as one the remnant guests of past and future.

Bestow upon your crown a glorious vision,

  without boundaries, containing endless time.

Taste the immense spaciousness of light,

invite the glowing embers to sink deeply down,

  until no meaning is found.

What a beautiful poem, @Elaine Harding ! I love the feeling of expansiveness the poem gives me after sensing the contraction in the beginning.

Practicing Art To Become And Make Your Soul Grow

This week I was inspired by a quote from Kurt Vonnegut:

“Practice any art, music, singing, dancing, acting, drawing, painting, sculpting, poetry, fiction, essays, reportage, no matter how well or badly, not to get money and fame, but to experience becoming, to find out what’s inside you, to make your soul grow…”

I explored how I was practicing art and what was holding me back from using it as a practice to become and make my soul grow.

Maybe its time I get on LinkedIn @Manuela Pauer. :-) Thanks for sharing !

Week of Sep 19th: Dance and Draw like nobody is watching

My practice this week is inspired by Kurt Vonnegut:

“Practice any art, music, singing, dancing, acting, drawing, painting, sculpting, poetry, fiction, essays, reportage, no matter how well or badly, not to get money and fame, but to experience becoming, to find out what’s inside you, to make your soul grow…”

So I will be dancing and drawing by myself to simply explore, rather than striving for any results. It feels like this would bring me closer to  my essential nature. I will make this my …

LG

I felt such joy witnessing the mind movie snippets that played out in my head of dancing as a drawing and drawing as a dance when I read your intention!

MP

Oooh, I love this, @Laura Greiner ! This might be fun to try out to actually do. I am curious to see what drawing would look like as a dance! 😄

KE

I like this idea, mind if I copy you?

MP

Please do, @Karin Edgett ! I love envisioning others doing the same! 😊 ❤️

In What Areas Of My Life Am I Still Holding Back?

This week I reflected on the question: "In which areas of your life are you still holding back until you feel like you know what you are doing?"

I explored what is holding me back and what could help me move forward.

PS

I love this, Manuela. (And I'm now following you on LI.) As a writing coach, I'm forever reminding writers that comparing ourselves to others is death to creativity. This is just as true in other areas of living. No one knows what they're doing. Humans are so afraid of not being in control that they can choke the life out of living. Letting go is truly an art form.

MP

Thank you very much, @Pam Sourelis ! Yes, very true. Ironically, sites like LinkedIn can sometimes fuel that urge to compare even more, so I am trying to use it mindfully. I want to release my need to control and trust the universe and myself more!

MP

Thank you, @Antonio Aversano ! I appreciate it!

KM

I commented on your Linkedin article @Manuela Pauer. I also found myself wanting a solution at the end of the article.....I don't know if you have solutions to it and not all content needs solutions...but I wanted to share my first /fresh response.

MP

Thank you, @Kate McNeill ! I want to make sure my Soul Gym posts are truly explorations rather than how-to articles. I do share my mantras and the fact that I am using Focalizing in my post, which really is the best solution I have found, but it requires quite some commitment and practice. Thank you for sharing what has worked for you.

MC

Thank you, well written and so true!

EH

Very honest and empowering post!  Also commented on IG:)

MP

Thank you for your support, @Elaine Harding!  😊

Shifting Perspective

I had this story that Soul Gym posts need to be long.

I rewrote that. 😉

Have a great weekend!

MP

This is brilliant, @Mara Clear Spring Cook ! I need to rewrite that story as well...😄

Poem 'A Red River Gum'

I wrote this poem in 2007 while on a writing and hiking retreat in the central desert of Australia.  I found it recently and it spoke to my soul - about being a sacred space for others and for celebrating our connection to life itself.  Poetry is a medium I truly love and it is calling me to begin writing again!  A 'gum' is a eucalyptus tree.

A Red River Gum

I want to live and die as gracefully as this noble red river gum

leaning gently over, offering myself as a resting place for the weary.

MP

What a beautiful poem! It's wonderful that you have started writing poetry again. I hope you continue!
