I wanted to share here this idea of "time" that George recently introduced me to, because I wonder who else here is in a similar boat?
 
In my Helper Insights interview with George, I got to talking about my inability to calendar, and wanting to follow guides, and stuff along those lines. 

The relevant piece to this post, George mentioned that there's two words in Greek for "time," and while he wasn't sure what the second word was -- but that it had to do with flow and being in the moment and whatnot ... and that this concept of time, along with taking directions from guides, that sounded like it might relate to what I was looking to do. 

I was like, "omg, there's a word for that??" lol I went to find it after the interview, and I'm pretty pumped about these words right now: 

Chronos: measured, quantitative time. It's the clock, the calendar, the passage of hours. 

Kairos: qualitative time; "right timing." It has its origins in archery (from what I can tell so far), and represents that ideal moment to take the shot. Or in weaving on a loom, the precise right time to move the yarn through the thing in the spot and whatever else it is you do with weaving (I'm clearly very familiar with the process). 

So this idea shot through me like ... well like an arrow, lol. I've been reflecting on how much of what I do is about "right timing," really just throughout my life, it's always been present as where my focus is. And also reflecting on ways in which we've locked into "chronos" time in our culture, and tried to cultivate blips of kairos within the chronos structure (often when we talk about trying to "find flow," though from my limited exposure to the word so far, I don't think kairos is just about flow, I think it's bigger than that.) 

I want it to be the other way around - I want to create a life that's following kairos, with chronos interjected where necessary. 

My intention for this week (which I never got around to writing down) was to lean in to following my guides. Make sure every morning I was doing my morning ritual of writing with them, and then do my best to check in throughout the day and "stay on course." Especially because I think in this kairos-concept, it's easy to mistake chasing a rabbit hole for fun as being in flow, when it may sometimes be a total derailment of the needed kairos. 

I don't know where this is going yet. I do know I want to explore it a lot more this year. A "kairos focused life" feels exciting, but also tiring ... because it's *not* as straightforward as following a calendar. I was reading a thing (on Wikipedia, I think) about how Aristotle believed that given the differences in various situations (in rhetoric, specifically), kairos can't be applied uniformly or consistently ... the "right timing" has to match the situation. That sounds exhausting, but also like ... exactly what I need to do?

I'm also nervous about what it means for business - how to have the consistency of following intuition (which not impulse, I have to remind myself of this constantly), and trusting that's can build up a sustainable business. 

Either way, I also know I have to give it a go and see what happens.
