I have a question for Thursday's Q&A with 

I feel that my marketing is limited these days. I've been focused on face-to-face conversations with colleagues, potential clients, and potential referral sources. This has proved an extremely high-impact practice in the past, so I'm trying to make it a regular part of my work. (As a side note, this is HARD! Trying to build your network is hard. I feel like half of what I do is reaching out to people who never respond. But when they do, it's great.)

I also write a monthly blog post and send out a monthly newsletter with a note to my subscribers and a link to the post. Sometimes I'll repurpose the blog post as a LinkedIn article, and I also post the link to my Facebook business page. 

Other than that, my social media presence is limited. I post on LinkedIn once a week maximum, when I feel as though I have something valuable to say. When I post on LinkedIn, I usually copy and paste the post to my Facebook business page. On rare occasions, I will post a text carousel to Instagram. 

I used to do Facebook ads but have stopped because I'm not allowed to target the audience I'd like, per Facebook's rules. (Jews are the audience.) If they're not going to let me speak to my audience, I don't see the point. I have not been successful in using Facebook ads to reach an audience that in any way resembles my niche. (I am a college counselor, and I specialize in working with LGBTQIA+ and Jewish folks.)

I enjoy writing my monthly blog post/newsletter because I enjoy the process of composing a piece. I like that level of thoughtfulness and craft. And I rarely have an issue finding something worthwhile to talk about.

But when I try to *~create content~* for social media, it feels as though I am forcing myself to say something just for the sake of saying something. For the sake of getting people's attention. I don't like that. It feels extremely inauthentic, but I know that having a consistent presence on social media shows your commitment to your work and reminds people of the work you do. I just haven't been able to find a way to do it sustainably and authentically. 

I am still present consistently. Once a month is, in fact, consistent. But I feel I should be doing more, even though it doesn't feel aligned with my personality and the way I'd like to show up in the world. 

I like having time to think my thoughts and process ideas and events privately. I don't know how to honor this while having a consistent social media presence. It feels diametrically opposed to the way I like to live. It feels like horrible grunt work and also a hamster wheel.

I'm especially concerned that my momentum with Facebook ads has stalled. I am at the beginning of my business journey and need more clients to progress. Social media, especially ads, could lead me to a new audience of potential clients. I would like advice on how to proceed.
