Hyperlinks into YT descriptions? 5:21
YT Descriptions & Hyperlinks (clickable links)

Add hyperlinks to YT descriptions? They seem to automatically turn normal links of -- YT videos, playlists, channels, and the major social links -- into hyperlinks. See example under this video.

@George KaoI tried to put a link in the description and YT wouldn't let me.  I had a request to verify my identity (submitting a photo of my driving licence).  Is this to be expected?  I just want to check if it's safe to proceed with the verification!

@Victoria Howard indeed it's becoming very common for social platforms to require government ID as part of their KYC ("know your customer") processes, so this sounds right.  As long as you doublecheck that the website you're submitting to is Youtube.
6 YT features small creators 3:48
YouTube regularly features "small" creators -- so keep creating to increase your chances!

Thank you for showing clearly how success with YouTube is possible without the insane hype!
SC

@Mara Clear Spring Cook I think this is the most important message in getting started. There's so much hype about "beating the algorithm" and competing with large channels that it can deflate a new creator before they even start.

MC

@Sarah Cashmore Agreed! It's unhelpful to focus on others' successes unless they help me flow into my own!

CA

@Sarah Cashmore Agreed! And I find it's way easier to get featured, or found, even a few weeks after I post a video--here on YouTube, more so than on other social media channels.

SC

@Colleen Adrian this is one thing I really like about YouTube — the longevity of my content! The feeling of permanence, compared to other social media platforms, makes me feel I’m investing my effort more wisely.

CA

@Sarah Cashmore Yes, exactly! Me too. I noticed that a while back. People find some of my popular videos even months after I've posted them, and comment/engage.

I've just recently pared back my social media presence to YouTube and IG. I don't seem to get engagement on FB biz page (even with ads), nor much on Linked In.

SC

@Colleen Adrian I've recently scaled back to just YT, but am testing the waters with posting just Stage 2 content to IG, FB, and TT. I don't get much engagement on FB, either, but now that I'm getting a better sense of my audience I'm curious if my ads will work better. Good luck this year!!

VH

@Sarah Cashmore I really like your perspective about the longevity of YouTube content - I'm going to adopt it!

SC

@Victoria Howard wonderful! ☺️ Best wishes!

SB

@Sarah Cashmore I'm really not interested in creating content that disappears in the feed and becomes invisible. I'm focused on content that becomes an asset for the future (blog articles, YouTube videos) because they're like having online real estate.

SC

@Stephanie Benedetto neat way to frame it! So interesting that so many of us gravitate to this specific feature of YT. I must admit, the feeling of permanence sometimes gets in the way of my freedom to truly experiment. I try to temper that by remembering that if people aren't interested in it the algorithm won't feature it and then it's back to experimenting for me. ☺️ Good luck to you!
