I was wondering who has created podcasts

I have 1 credit left for this year.
George course - Simple Podcast creation is 1 credit.

Have you creating a podcast?
What did it do for you? Did you love it? Was it fun?
Did you take this course?
Would you want to take it with me?

I've been recording an irregular podcast since March 2021, and I have 59 episodes so far. Some of them are blog posts that I just read and post as-is, and most episodes are interviews with people I find interesting that are at least tangentially connected to my niche and whom I know will be sharing insight that my audience will (probably) enjoy. For the most part, really, I do it because I enjoy it, I love having this opportunity for deep conversation with my guests. I'm a former academic researcher with lots of interview experience, and worked on radio as well, and it's always been my favorite medium. As a nice aside, the podcast also serves as outreach, as my guests share the podcast episode with their audience. I have a mix of guests, some of whom have bigger audiences than me, and others with smaller audiences, and I'm happy to help them spread their message. I'm getting pitches from PR agents/publishers on a regular basis now, too. For the past two years or so, I've been recording video and posting that part to YouTube as well.

My business podcast is hosted on Podbean and I'm happy to pay the $100 or so per year for hosting. I have a separate podcast-for-fun project that I now host on Substack because it's free with zero monetization plan. I've enjoyed every minute of work on it, but it's really been a hobby so I didn't want to have to pay to keep that one available for downloads.

New clients -- how are they finding you?

Look at your new clients from this year... how did they find you?

  • Content?  If å new client has signed up because of your content, on which platform did they find you?

  • Netcaring?  Did a conversation turn into a client or a referral?

  • Market discovery?  Did a market research call turn into a client or referral?

  • Aligned Offer?  Did improving your offer make a noticeable difference in getting interest in your work?

  • Collaboration?  Did you get an interview or other collab that resulted in a new cli…

Most of my income is from info products (meal plan subscription, email course, books) and programs (courses). Most people who buy something from me have been email subscribers for at least a few weeks - I send weekly emails that are written like a letter to a friend, where I share the content I've created and current offers. I do not strictly track customer acquisition but here is what I notice (kinds of activities associated with greater sales) and what I hear from clients when they sign up for my services.

  • My YouTube channel has been a significant source of new subscribers to my newsletter, book sales, and requests for 1:1 private coaching clinics. Most people seem to get to my YouTube channel via the YouTube recommendations.

  • Guest appearances in front of other people's audiences (YouTube, podcast, programs...) has a big impact when the host is bigger than me. Back in May, I was a guest on a YouTube daily show with a really engaged following that has had nearly 25K views so far. It's still bringing me new clients.

  • Monthly free events on Zoom (mix of nutrition webinars and cooking demos, depending on my mood) contribute to building my email list a lot. I promote those with Facebook ads.

  • SEO is still a big thing for me. I have a number of blog posts that are doing reasonably well for keywords that matter to me (e.g., vegan batch cooking). Which reminds me that I should probably update them.

  • I am in the process of recording a new course and I recruited the "founders" (beta cohort) via my email list. When this becomes evergreen in 2025, I wouldn't be surprised if there were more SEO-driven spontaneous sales.

Are you interested in getting together with others at similar business stage and discussing strategy/next steps?

Would you be interested in having discussions with other ABC/Masterheart members who are at similar stage of business as you... to discuss what strategy/next steps are most relevant?

...and then have me advise your group on those next steps?

We can easily do this as breakout groups during our weekly ABC calls.

Or would you rather discuss specific areas of business, with people who might be at different levels?

If we do breakout groups for stages of business, what do you think about coordinatin…

Lots of great insight above, and I

@Aurora Meneghello 's suggestions resonate with me more. Also in line with @Dipanshu Rawal 's comments, I think "perceived" income, relative to aspirations, is more meaningful. I am personally not looking to create a full-time income from this business, for example, but I treat it as a full-time job and not a hobby.

So... this is a great idea but the execution may be a bit fuzzy at the beginning and everyone will need to have patience as you explore meaningful ways to divide people up!  Thanks for cooking it up for us. :)

PO Box Alternatives

Hi everyone,

For years I've kept a PO Box to be in compliance with having an address connected to my newsletters. However, the rates keep going up, the box just fills with physical junk mail that I never check and I don't think that USPS is too happy about that :) Anyway, curious what others are doing and if there are options I'm not thinking of. Right now I'm paying $91 every six months. Thanks everyone!

Hi Jackie! I'm late to the party but you may want to make sure that your domain name(s) is set to be anonymously registered, which means that your mailing address will not be available for all junk-mailers to see. I have stop receiving almost all physical spam since doing that.

The physical mailing address for my newsletter is that of our family lawyer's office. He was the one who offered - they only charge if they forward something to me. I've written it as "Brigitte Gemme c/o Law Firm Name, Law Firm Address." In the last four years since I started doing that, they have had to forward exactly two pieces of mail to me (including one handwritten thank-you card from a client!), no spam (and I have a few thousand subscribers on my email list). If you do have a lawyer you deal with regularly, they may be willing to do this for you.

2024 Goal: Sustainable and Sane Productivity

Hi all!

Our ideal client is someone who is looking for support with design, copy, or illustration needs.

I've been in business for 2.5 years, but I'm pivoting with 2 other people in 2024.

I'm working on sane productivity in 2024, because I found I can be very unbalanced.

We don't have our website set up yet, but our facebook is https://www.facebook.com/sp...

Wonderful "meeting" you, you are in the right place, you'll love it. Good luck with grad school! What program are you starting?

Heather - Well hello. 🌞

Hello everyone!

💜 I've been running my business full-time for five and a half years. Having spent two decades in various administrative and managerial roles in the corporate world, around ten of those years were spent in  part-time studies in addictions and counseling. My journey led to working in a treatment center and eventually establishing my own healing practice that I initially labeled (to later learn I was hiding behind) as a Life Coaching Business. While my audience size is modest, it'…
