Substack has 2 types of "publications"... a basic type (merged with profile) and what they consider an "advanced" type (which is what we're teaching in this course). The advanced type isn't more overwhelming than the basic type... so we recommend going with the advanced because it gives you more features, such as "Sections" (we'll talk about this later) and the ability to add team members if you wish. Both types of publications are free, so you might as well go for advanced / full-featured! To understand these 2 types and make sure you have created our recommended type: watch this public video
As part of our co-learning, let's share below some effective ways to use Instagram, by commenting with any examples! When you share the example, also tell us why you think it's effective or resonates with you. If you see no comments below, and no ability to comment, first log into this course.
Who do I like on Insta?
- a tennis student started recently to make creative fun videos about tennis: https://www.instagram.com/s...
- otherwise, for a more famous person, I like what Teal Swan is doing. She's aware of the powers that run the world and she's smart about what she shares. Well, at least her team does it well for her: https://www.instagram.com/t...
She's on a mission and I can relate to it.
I'm hoping to learn to appreciate Instagram. I'm old school-Facebook. I like long posts, deep conversations, and interacting in the comments.
My perception of Instagram is that it's all one way. People post. Hardly any comments, and I don't see a lot of people sharing great stuff they find. I'm hoping this course helps me learn to appreciate Instagram because I'm missing something.
Why you might want to share other people's IG posts as part of your Stories: It shows your audience that you're a curator of interesting content! Some of your audience might start interesting conversations with you in DM's. It creates gratitude for the person whose post you're sharing. Potentially creates a new connection / nurtures connection with that person. You can easily share someone else's IG post as one of your Stories by doing this: Just below the post you want to share, there's a paper-airplane icon -- click on it Then at the bottom of the screen click "Add to story" Be sure to add an @mention of their username, so that (if they want to) it's easy for them to reshare your share :) Any other tips about sharing people's stories, comment below 🙏🏼
Makes me long for Facebook...

Hey all! I'm a bit of a tech nerd so if anyone needs tech support, feel free to reach out and we can jump on zoom. Especially Mac products... I'm learning Instagram like you all are but can figure out almost anything.
I'm happy to help in any way I can. I don't know much. But I'm great at figuring things out.
I'm pretty good with technology. Willing to help where I can.
Thank you @George Kao this is exactly what happened to me and I was able to get my profile on track using your advice here. I'm curious, on the publication you have remaining, are the notes from the personal profile pulling through? I'm wondering if there's a glitch when you convert the personal profile to a publication to be able to delete it, if Substack still thinks you're a publication, even after deleting the redundant publication, and the notes are getting screwy. Curious what it looks like on your end. Not sure if that makes sense haha
@Jackie Johansen great question. I just posted my first few test notes in that test profile, and indeed it's not (yet) showing up in my test publication (the only one I have left). I'm hoping it's a delay and it'll show up in a day or so, but I'll let you know. If it doesn't show up, then it's a Substack bug and we all need to report it!
@Jackie Johansen I posted notes and expected them to show up on my notes tab when I viewed it. But when I checked with Substack, I think it doesn't show you your own notes there.
I'd be curious to see what others' experiences are.
